This new 24" HD widescreen monitor is a BEAST. I had to completely re-arrange my desk before it would fit. Now I feel like scooting my chair back because it's so much larger than I'm used to. Actual printscreen is probably way too big, so I'll just leave it as a hyperlink instead of screwing up everyones LJ screen. http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/6613/54601902.png
December 10th, 200903:51 am: global warming my ass
How the F did Al Gore get an Oscar & a Nobel Peace Prize for a load of crap is a mystery to me. Then again, I don't understand why people want to read a book about a failed vice president nominee & someone who quit her job as governor of Canada Jr.
December 8th, 200905:47 am: BFF RACE!
Anyone who comments on this post becomes my friend. In order. So post ASAP. Also, I'm testing if the "detect music" app that I installed in my LJ app can see what iTunes is playing. I think it's broken. Current Music: Fuck You Motherfucker - I Just Had Sex With Your Great Grandma

October 11th, 200909:13 pm: Fear and loathing...
My first trip to Las Vegas, NV is complete, and it was quite a success. With the small exceptions of "not enough sleep" and "too long of a car drive", it might have been the best vacation I've ever had. ( Read more... )
October 8th, 200906:36 pm: iPhone Rock Band?
So Rock Bank on the iPhone/iPod Touch is real, and coming out this month. A news release from EA mobile promises "live Bluetooth multiplayer" If you want to rock with friends not in the same room, the app says it will synch you up with bandmates via Facebook invitation. What? Facebook invite? Seriously? I guess I won't be enjoying multiplayer. The track list in the core game: Attack-30 Seconds To Mars Girls Not Grey – AFI Move Along - All American Rejects Sabotage - Beastie Boys All The Small Things - Blink-182 Hanging on the Telephone – Blondie Learn To Fly - Foo Fighters Everlong - Foo Fighters Bad to The Bone - George Thorogood & the Destroyers Hymn 43 - Jethro Tull Bad Reputation - Joan Jett Simple Man - Lynard Skynard Ace of Spades '08 – Motorhead Debaser - Pixies Ladybug - Presidents of The United States of America Give It All - Rise Against Lazy Eye - Silversun Pick Ups Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins Take The Money and Run - Steve Miller Band We Got The Beat - The Go Go's
At first I was like :D but then I... realized this game will suck.
October 5th, 200903:59 pm: LBCC over
I'll hyperlink everything so this isn't too bogged down with images. Try opening links in a new window to avoid back-and-forth. Stan Lee (above) was there on day 1 to cut the ribbon, as well as getting a key to the city of Long Beach, and an award from the mayor, stating that October 2nd was officially "Stan Lee Day". The convention floor was nice and open, which was a nice change of pace from SDCC, which stunk of sweat and boners. The Nintendo booth was the busiest all weekend, with tons of games set up, including Wii Sports, Punch Out, and lots of Nintendo DSi kiosks. They also had the New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, which doesn't come out for another 6 weeks. I met Richard Hatch from BSG. Got a signed glossy photo for $20. He was either A. a very nice guy, or B. starved for attention. Thomas Jane was there promoting his new movie that he directed & starred in. Later he was upstairs on the PA making jokes and being charming as usual. Jim Lee was around on Friday & Saturday, but his line was HUGE all weekend. I have no idea if he was doing sketches and didn't want to waste time. I bought lots of stuff from J. Scott Campbell, and he signed everything. Sadly, he was not doing commissions, but he did sketch inside my book, which was good enough. I got in line at 3:30 for the 4:00 signing on Friday, and I was second in line. At 3:50 they made an announcement about him on the PA, and the line grew to about 120 people. I was so happy to be #2, and not #121. All in all, it was a good convention, but of course no where near as awesome as SDCC. Compared to SDCC, I'd give LB a 6/10, but judging it just on the fun times & cool stuff (and not comparing it to anything else), I'd give LBCC a 8/10.
October 2nd, 200902:34 am: 1 month of unemployment completed
It's hard being unemployed! No one warned me of the endless hours in the day with nothing to do. No one mentioned the 9+ hours of sleep I would require within a 24 hour period. People failed to mention that I would forget what day it was, and almost forget to move my car for the street sweeper. It's rough I tells ya! *straightens tie* Today starts the LBCC. I'm going directly to J. Scott Campbell's booth when the doors open, for 1) a quick sketch 2) buying $100 in books/prints/posters 3) and asking for a commission, which I imagine will take 2+ hours and cost me another $100. I'll be going back Saturday and Sunday (3-day pass) to get more junk & more sketches from Jim Lee, Ale Garza & Amanda Conner. Good times will be had. I hope I don't spend ALL this money. Then next weekend is the Las Vegas wedding. Whatever money I have left over from LBCC, plus a little bit more, will probably be lost on Texas Hold 'em, Blackjack & strip clubs. Good times will be had again. Expect updates this weekend & next. Or you can just ignore me ^__^

August 20th, 200901:21 pm: blech
The trailer for Avatar is out (shown at SDCC last month), and I'm still not impressed. http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/avatar/hd/Here's a rundown; Outer space. Nice. All the human scenes look cool. No dialogue, so that's not saying much. There's the guy from Terminator Salvation... in a wheelchair? Oooh mechs. This looks like a live-action anime movie. Planet scenes look cool... semi-realistic. Blue guy. Blue guy wakes up. ZOMG ACTION. STUFF BLOWING UP. FLYING DINOSAUR THINGS. FEMALE BLUE GUY. LOVE STORY. End. For being in production for the last 4 years, this looks kinda lame. Mostly the rubber CG aliens. Note to James Cameron; if you want to see how to make realistic aliens, go see District 9. Apparently 14 years and hundreds of millions of dollars, and that's the best he could come up with... meanwhile Blomkamp & Jackson spend 30 million & 6 months of writing & directing, and come out with one of the best Sci Fi movies of all time.
July 16th, 200902:19 am: Vegas baby
The San Diego Comic Con is less than 10 days away, but I'm already planning my next vacation. My good friends Vince and Laura are getting married in Las Vegas this October. I've been dragging my feet on the whole situation since March, mostly because I didn't want to drive that long distance and stay in a hotel by myself and all that crap. See; I used to work with Vince, and we are also friends outside of work. However, we only have 1 common friend outside of work (also an ex-coworker), so I don't feel like inviting any of my other friends (they know Vince, but wouldn't care about attending his wedding). Long story short, our one mutual friend (Greg) was going with his girlfriend (who I also know pretty well), so I didn't even consider tagging along with him. A few weeks ago, Greg asked me if I was going to the wedding, and I explained everything above. Greg mentioned that he wasn't too excited about going either; not only the expenses, but also not knowing anyone except for the bride and groom. And me. That's when we started talking about making it a 3-person road trip. So flash forward 3 weeks (and lots of conversations) to today. We have our plans 90% finalized. Greg, Vivian and I are driving out on 10/9 (my car) and checking into the Paris hotel. That's also where the wedding is, so we won't have to drive anywhere once we check in. We will be checking out on 10/11. The three of us were originally getting 2 rooms somewhere ghetto, but ended up being fine with sharing a large suite, which is much more expensive, but we are splitting 50/50. For the entire 3 day weekend (two nights), it will be about $500, but I'll only pay half of that, which is much better than a $120 room (x2 nights) at some shitty hotel far away from where the wedding takes place. I've stayed with G & V before, so it won't be weird. And regardless, we plan to party all weekend, and just pass out in our beds after we can't handle anymore alcohol and/or fun. I'm looking forward to my first real trip to Vegas ^__^ But, once again, SDCC is next weekend, so I'm still super pumped for that XD
July 9th, 200903:04 pm: My birfday started with a bang!
OK, bad pun. I was in the pool today around 1:00 and I heard a loud BANG. Sounded like a door slamming (maybe from the wind?), so I didn't think anything of it. After drying off, I heard a lot of people outside (up front). All the neighbors had gathered around a front lawn... and as I approached, I saw this; http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/5501/img0115r.jpg http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/2905/img0118d.jpg http://img37.imageshack.us/img37/2664/img0120rth.jpg http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/4981/img0123iet.jpg http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/871/img01222.jpg Everyone appears to be OK. The driver was taken away in an ambulance, and no one knows if he blacked out or what. Thankfully my neighbors across the street were not home when it happened, but someone called them and they got back to see the damage and talk to the police.
In birfday related news; about 7-8 people are coming over around 6 tonight (after they get off work). We are gonna have some pizza, eat some ice cream cake (Baskin Robins! Yumb) play poker, and just chill... till around 9 or 10, and then head out to Dave & Busters for food, booze & games.Being 30 is very similar to being 29. So far...
July 5th, 200904:30 pm: Vent.
You don't have to read this post. I'm just venting. It's all emo from here on out. So 2 weeks ago my mom casually asks me what I want to do for my birthday (7/9). I said "I dunno, I hadn't really thought about it. It would be nice if someone else planned everything for me though. Not a surprise party, but just took care of everything" and I nudged her. A day or two later, she emailed me at work and asked for my friends phone numbers, and any ideas or "fun things to do". My response (copy & pasted from the email): I'd be happy just hanging around the house with my friends in the back yard. Pizza, poker, pool. (swimming pool, not billiards) And a list of 7 of my closest friends. Flash forward a week or so (this weekend), and I've gotten texts from two people asking "any plans for Thursday?". So I asked my mom; "have you called anyone yet?" "no, I've been busy""well... it's in 4 days, I hope people are still free on short notice" *silence* "I don't really want to do any of the things you emailed me""ok, you don't have to... but I thought you were making some kind of plan" "I'd rather just take you out to dinner with your dad. Just the three of us""Ok, we can do that... but that's like 2 hours. What about the rest of the day before that?" "I dunno"OK, why did she ask for a list of guests, phone numbers & what I wanted to do? I mean, her response to my email last week was "what about Aida?" (my friend Chuck's wife, who I didn't put on the list, just Chuck was on there). No argument or problem with anything I wrote... was I wrong to assume that she was taking care of things? So I said F it, and told her not to do a thing. I texted 4 friends and asked if they wanted to come over Thursday evening (5ish). They are all available and will be here. I'm not sure what we'll do, but its better than nothing. Movie? Dave & Busters? Dinner? We can work out plans on the fly, so I'm not worried... but I'm really pissed at my mom.
